Ghana marks AU Day today Africa Day (formerly African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day) is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) (now known as the African Union) on 25 May 1963. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world. However, many powerful countries in the African Union don’t celebrate or observe the African Day celebration as agreed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1963. The powerful Africa countries who don’t celebrate or observe the African Day celebration include South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and Botswana.Biggest economies - Nigeria leads with a total GDP of $408.61 followed by South Africa with $370.89. Highest per capita income - Equatorial Guinea with $40,718. Biggest military- Egypt leads the continent with a total military personnel of 1,329,250; active personnel of 454,250 and reserve personnel of 875,000. Biggest trading partner of US and EU- South Africa. Largest proven reserves of natural gas - Nigeria. Largest proven reserves of crude oil - Libya However, only nine countries and members of the AU observe the African day celebration. Currently, the AU, a continental union consists of all 55 countries on the African continent. According to Office Holidays website, only nine countries in the AU observe the Africa Day every May 25. And these countries are The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Lesotho, Mali, Mauritania, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. In Ghana, the Convention People’s Party , (CPP) in a statement, believes Africa has been making some significant strives with regards to the total liberation of the Continent. According to the CPP, a typical example is the FREE TRADE AGREEMENT which was signed earlier this year by majority of African Countries including our very own dear country, Ghana. The statement which was issued by Chairman & Leader of the party, Prof. Edmund N. Delle, and copied to GBCONLINE, said one of the long held dream of our Nation’s Founder Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and other freedom fighters on the continent was made a reality by so doing. AFRICAN UNION DAY CPP BEMOURNS THE EXCESSIVE DELAYS TO TOTALLY LIBERATE THE AFRICAN CONTINENT African has been making some significant strives with regards to the total liberation of the African Continent. A typical example is the FREE TRADE AGREEMENT which was signed earlier this year by majority of African Countries including our very own dear country, Ghana. One of the long held dream of our Nation’s Founder Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and other freedom fighters on the continent was made a reality by so doing. We as a people and a continent will live to the total benefit and impact of this FREE TRADE AGREEMENT. However, this is just one achievement out of the many fundamentals delaying the total liberation of our dear continent. We the Convention People’s Party; the movers and shakers of this common goal (AFRICAN UNITY) do think that it is taking us too much time to complete the entire move in order to TOTALLY UNIT OUR CONTINENT. It’s been more than 60 years down the lane and we are still striving to achieve this total common goal. For example; how can an African in this day and age wanting to visit another African country be required to acquire a VISA and not a simple PASS? How lazy can we continue to be as Leaders on our continent in achieving the entire fundamental-laid down procedures and strategies which was drafted and adopted by our earlier Leaders? Observing this day is almost becoming meaningless. We the Convention People’s Party is saddened by these systematic failures that seems to be delaying the entire process. On this day, we the Convention People’s Party ask that any country deliberately delaying this entire process should be ignored completely to pave way for the overall achievement of the TOTAL LIBERATIN OF THE AFRICAN CONTINENT. We want an African continent that is dependent on its own MILITARY FORCES. We want an African continent that is dependent on its own FOOD & AGRICULTURE. We want an African continent that will mine its own NATURAL RESOURCES, refine and use amongst itself and export the remaining if need be. We also want an African continent that will move as a CONTINENTAL BLOCK to negotiate in equal proportion TRADE DEALS with the world et al… We the people of Africa are ready! We the ordinary African person are very ready for this and many more LIBERATIONS!
