I am struggling to quit the use of tramadol ‘a tramadol addict’


A tramadol addict whose identity has been withheld is struggling to quit using the drug after four years and 12 years of smoking marijuana. 

Speaking on GBC Sunrise FM Morning Show “Ade Akye Abia” in Koforidua, he said, he has been addicted to marijuana since he was eight years. According to him, his then girlfriend introduced him to the drug to enhance his performance in bed at the age of 16. 

He said, an addiction that started with two pills of tramadol with energy drinks or other beverages, has increased to six or seven a day in addition to smoking five rolls of marijuana. 

He noted that out of about 30 friends including females that he has, about 90 percent are addicted to the drug. He revealed that as a result of the addiction, he has developed a lot of conditions which are detrimental to his health. 

He cited intermitent bouts of sleep known as “nodding” as one that sometimes happens after taking the drug. 
This, he explains, happens during a conversation, thus making him nod without uttering a word for a long period of time during the conversation. He also mentioned “freezing”, which makes one stiff for hours. 

This, he said, can lead to death if there is no one around. He has now decided to put a stop to taking tramadol, following advice from a medical doctor concerning a looming heart condition. 

He noted that he has now reduced his dosage to one pill and one roll of marijuana a day as quitting at once is very difficult. He hopes to eventually quit completely to save his life.
