GJA to pay homage to fallen heros at welcome vigil for foreign journalists today

The Ghana Journalists Association, GJA, will this evening hold a vigil and a welcome reception for both foreign and local delegates to this year's (2018) Global World Press Freedom Day at the International Press Centre in Accra. 

A statement signed by the GJA President, Affail Monney said the vigil will be an occasion to remember journalists who have died in the line of duty across the the world, while the reception will welcome the foreign delegates to fraternize.

The statement said the occasion will also be used to display Ghana's rich culture.

There will be solidarity messages by key media organisations including the National Media Commission, International Federation of Journalists and the Federation of African Journalists. 

Every year, UNESCO organises a national celebration to mark the global World Press Freedom Day in one country.The main Day falls on May 3 each year. 

This year, the day will be commemorated in Accra from today (May 1) to Friday May 3 on the theme "keeping Power in Check: Media, Justice and The Rule of Law''.
