Auditor General to block salaries of Heads of Public Institutions who misappropriate funds

The Auditor General, Daniel Domelevor says, salaries of Heads of Public Institutions found culpable of misappropriating public funds will be blocked and surcharged, to reduce the spate of corruption in the country.

Mr. Domelevor also intimated that his outfit will form a Construction Audit to check the shoddy services rendered by some contractors. 

He made these known at a Continuous Professional Development Programme organized by the 2013 Year Group of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Accra.

The 2013 Year Group of the Institute of Chartered Accountants' Continuous Professional Development seeks to enhance the professional ethics of members.

The topic for the session was “The Role of the Auditor General in facilitating the work of the Special Prosecutor".

The Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo in a presentation said recovering money from corrupt officials is not  deterrent enough to reduce corruption.

It is in this regard that the Auditor-General will collaborate effectively with the Office of the Special Prosecutor to adequately punish those who engage in corruption.

Mr Demelevo added that salaries of Heads of Public Institutions who fail to respond to audit reports in thirty days shall be blocked and surcharged.

Mr Domelevor raised issues with the poor quality of services by contractors resulting in sub-standard roads, buildings and other facilities. 

He urged Public Servants to have the interest of the country at heart in the performance of their duties.

Citing some relevant Acts in connection with auditing, the Auditor-General advised auditors and accountants to acquaint themselves with the law towards service delivery.
