Former GBA Vice Chairman advises against Bukom Banku/Bastie Samir rematch A former Vice Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority in the 1980s, Alhaji Showumi Williams, has advised defeated cruiser weight boxer, Bukom Banku, not to call for a rematch. He attributed Banku's defeat to his decision to shed weight to fight Bastie Samir. “As I congratulate Bastie Samir for defeating Bukum Banku, I think Bukum Banku did not disgrace himself as people are parading around,” he disclosed in an interview with GBC. “Bukum Banku underrated the young man and out of complacency, decided to shed weight to the tune of about 1 pound, which is too much. As a boxing manager, I know that no boxer shedding that amount of weight can do well in boxing,” Alhaji Showumi Williams said. “I still believe Bukom Banku is the greatest and will not advise him to ask for a rematch because the result will not be anything different if he is also going to shed weight on that occasion too,” he added. Bukom Banku who has nicknamed himself as the “African Mayweather” suffered an excruciating knockout in the 7th round at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra when he clashed with Ghanaian welterweight boxer Bastie Samir.
