Regulate petro-chemical industry to avert disaster - Parliament 

Parliament has tasked institutions mandated to regulate the petro-chemical industry to be up and doing to avert disasters in the country. 

Commenting on the recent atomic junction gas explosion in Madina, Accra, the legislators said the recklessness by actors in these fields are leading to the so many explosions which have claimed lives and maimed hundreds of Ghanaians .

The Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said since 2000, there have been over fifty gas explosions in the country.

He said negligence and non-compliance to rules and regulations can be attributed as the causes of these explosions. 

Mr Kyei Mensah Bonsu said those culpable in these explosions should be made to face the law to serve as a deterrent to others.

The MP for Bawku Central and a former Minister of Environment Science and Technology, Mahama Ayariga, said legal actions must be taken against owners of the stations rather than government always paying compensation so that others will sit up.
  
The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, reminded the oversight committees of parliament to go beyond the talk and crack the whip to avert any future disaster.
