Labour Unions call for strict enforcement of legislation to prevent job security abuse

Three Labour Unions have called for strict enforcement of legislation to prevent the abuse of workers job security. 

The abuses have been under the cloak of casual, temporary and contract work.

This situation if not checked will jeopardize the present and future social and financial security of workers. 

The leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, Ghana Mineworkers Union and the Ghana Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union stated this at a News Conference to mark World Day of Decent Work in Accra.
 
The three unions which are affiliates of Industrial Global Union, noted that employers disrespect for the labour rights of workers cannot promote industrial harmony. 

The General Secretary of ICU and Chairman of the Industrial Liaison Council, Ghana, Solomon Kotei said precarious work is denying workers privileges like fair income and job security.

The National Chairman of the Ghana Mineworkers Union, Mensah  Gyarkari,  identified regulatory  gaps and non-compliance  with  Industrial Relation Legislation saying these have made the workplace more  unsafe.

He challenged labour unions to join forces to campaign against policies that threaten the survival of workers.

The Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union, Francis Sallah asked Ghanaians not to toy with the issue of how some employers are preventing the formation of workers unions.
