Six confirmed dead, scores injured and property lost in Atormic Madina inferno At least six people have been confirmed dead with dozens injured in the Madina Atomic Junction gas explosion that occurred on Saturday night in Accra. Two of the deceased are said to have been knocked down by speeding vehicles during the chaos. More than 20 vehicles are also reported to have been razed down by the explosion. Many of the injured persons were sent to the 37 Military Hospital and Legon Hospital for treatment. Four of the injured persons are said to be in life-threatening conditions at the 37 Military Hospital. Two fuel stations, including a gas refill station at the Madina Junction, caught fire leading to the destruction of several properties and loss of lives. The fire is said to have started at about 7 p.m on Saturday night and lasted for many hours. Hundreds of people are thronging Madina Junction in Accra this morning to observe for themselves the remnants of the Saturday night gas explosion that occurred at the place. Many of the observers who have gathered on the overhead bridge close to the accident scene are seen taking photographs of the burnt gas filling station and the torched vehicles. Meanwhile, police officers and firefighters have cordoned the place as they gather evidence to establish the cause of the fire. Earlier, three people were reported to have died from the gas explosion, which is said to have started at about 7 p.m Saturday night, October 7, 2017. More than 20 vehicles are said to have been torched in the process. Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is said to have left Tamale for Accra to assess the gravity of the gas explosion. The Vice President, who on Saturday joined President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his three-day official tour of the Northern Region, was compelled to leave for Accra when the news broke out. The disaster coincided with the Vice President’s 54th birthday celebration which brought together President Nana Addo, family relations, friends and well-wishers at the OIC spot in Tamale. Saddened by the disaster, Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who was to visit Salaga with President Nana Addo today [Sunday] left for Accra. That's according to reports.
