Veep Dr. Bawumia Expected To Visit Gas Explosion Scene Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is to visit the gas explosion venue this morning. Ghana yesterday experienced another massive gas explosion at Atomic junction close to the University of Ghana. The explosion occurred at the MANSCO gas station at Atomic Junction. The first explosion was heard at about 7:20pm. According to reports, the fire caught an adjacent fuel station. A second explosion was heard about few minutes later. Some cars parked close by have been burnt to ashes. Eye-witnesses say the explosion struck when a gas tanker was offloading its contents at a station. The fire instantly spread to a fuel station opposite the gas filling station. Ferocious fireballs flew into the air changing the skyline and turning it into a hazy cloud. Hundreds of residents in and around Madina, Atomic Junction and a section of the main campus of the University of Ghana, Legon are said to have fled their homes following the explosion that occurred at a gas station. Deputy Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah were at the scene of the disaster last night.
