MiDA to ensure fairness in procurement opportunities


The Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), Owura Kwaku Sarfo, on Tuesday gave the assurance that they will ensure fairness and transparency to both local and foreign bidders for supply of goods and services.

He said under the implementation of the Ghana Power Compact Two, the Authority will welcome proposals from local and foreign companies and assured that it will ensure competitive, open and transparent bidding processes.

Mr. Kwaku Sarfo said this at an orientation workshop organised by MiDA for some prospective bidders on the opportunities and procedures in the Millennium Development Corporation, in Accra.

The workshop, he said, will equip participants with information and enhance their understanding on various procurement requirements.

He observed that many prospective bidders face difficulties and often fail in their quest to win contracts because of lack of information on bidding processes.

He said the workshop would therefore educate prospective bidders to comply with the MiDA specifications and enhance their chances of winning contracts.

He urged the participants to listen attentively and ask any knotty question for the necessary explanation and clarifications.

Alhaji Fuseini Abu, the Director in-charge of Procurement at the MiDA, took participants through common mistakes often committed by bidders.

He said some applicants failed to append their signatures to the proposal documents, wrong submission of proposal documents to the appropriate portfolios, failure to label the envelopes to the appropriate persons, among others.

He therefore, entreated all prospective applicants to exercise due diligence in order to avoid these hiccups.

The Millennium Development Authority is implementing the second phase of the Ghana Power Compact with $500 million dollars support from the Millennium Challenge Corporation aimed at improving the country's power sector to ensure efficiency in service delivery and reduce poverty.
