Queen of Peace SHS wins Ghana Youth Mobile App Contest

The Queen of Peace Senior High School, Nadowli, Upper West Region, has won the 2017 edition of the "Ghana Youth Mobile App Contest". 

The contest was organised by the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT and supported by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, GIFEC. 

The two representatives of the School built an app called 'High School GH' which contained detailed information on all senior high schools in the country to assist junior high school leavers in their school selection and placement.  

The programme is to equip students in the less privileged parts of the country with the skills in generating mobile apps. 

Yendi Secondary School placed second, Keta Senior High Technical School, third, Krobo Girls Senior High School, fourth and Navrongo Secondary school fifth. 

So far, about 500 students and 50 teachers from 10 schools in the Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Eastern and Volta Regions have benefited from the training. 

Speaking at the event in Accra, a Deputy Minister of Communications, Vincent Sowah Odotei, said government has a key mandate to get the youth involved in ICT development and not just consumers.
