A/R: Minister of Lands call for immediate shutdown of Geo Professional Services The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, has ordered the immediate shutdown of Geo Professional Services, a small scale mining company at Tontokrom in the Amansie West district of Ashanti. The Minister has in addition, directed managers of the mine to immediately proceed to Accra with all their mining equipment. Mr. Amewu, said he will petition his counterpart at the Defence Ministry to also investigate why soldiers have been deployed to guard operations of a company that has been ordered to cease work. The emotionally charged chief of Tontokrom, Nana Kwadwo Tonto Boamah, knelt before the Minister to narrate the harrowing experience the community has been going through in the last 25 years as a result of mining in the area. A Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Benito Owusu Bio, said the Minister will investigate the legal status of two Ukrainians, a Russian and another foreigner in mining in the area. According to the Deputy Minister, the three local companies that hold the original mining concession could automatically lose their mining operating license if it turns out that the have given their license to the foreigners to mine their concessions.
