Rainstorm destroys more than 70 houses in Kassena Nankana West District of Upper East

More than 70 houses at Tazika Bagtuah in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region have been destroyed by rainstorm, rendering some people homeless.

Many houses in the affected areas also had their roofs ripped off.
 
The Tazika-Bagtuah Community Junior High School block was also affected. Speaking to Radio Ghana at Paga, the Head Teacher Michael Kandwe, said the situation has compelled the teachers to hold classes under trees.

Mr Kandwe said due to the impact of the downpour, reading materials and other items for teaching was affected.

Mr. Kandwe said the school has officially informed the offices of the Directorate of Education, the NADMO office and the Assembly.
 
He appealed to government, civil society organisations, philanthropists and other well-meaning Ghanaians to go to the aid of the school.

Apart from the classroom block, the office of the Head Teacher also got damaged.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded since the incident occurred in the night when school was not in session.

The cost of the damage is estimated at two hundred thousand Ghana Cedis and the school will need to rebuild the damaged block to be able to enjoy a good teaching and learning environment.
