Upper West TUC undertakes clean up of Nadowli hospital to mark May Day

The Upper West Regional secretary of the Trade Union Congress, (TUC), George Kofi Mude this morning, led the TUC and its affiliated unions as well as other unions to undertake a cleanup at the Nadoli District Hospital, as part of activities marking this year's May Day. 

After the clean up at the hospital, the workers matched through the principal street of Nadoli and finally converged at the forecourt of the District Assembly for the May Day Rally. 

During the match, workers displayed placards some of which read "if you privatise ECG, you have privatised Ghana", "Mr. President Wa-Tumu-Bolga road should be tarred", "Politicians must join the single spine" and "Jobs are difficult to find than gold and cocaine". 

Addressing the gathering, the regional secretary of TUC George Kofi Mude who read the TUC secretary general's address said organised labour is counting on on the Akufo-Addo government to reverse the unfavorable conditions and inadequacies in some of the country's institutions like Prisons, Police and the health sector. 

The Upper West Regional Minister commended workers for their instrumental role in bringing the country this far but added the significant stride that have been made need to pushed further to create the decent jobs our teeming youth continue to yearn for year by year. 

He continued that the Akufo-Addo government is committed to reversing the current unemployment trend through, the introduction of policy initiatives which will create more jobs for both the young and old in its quest to improve the living standards of the people. 

Mr. Alhassan mention the planting for food and jobs campaign as one of such policies. 

Some workers were honoured for their dedicated service to unionism. 

The awards winners include Benjamin Weyipan Aloka and Mary Kaanye. 

They received citations, TV sets and fridges.
