Businesses lost over ¢20m to malaria – Study

A study that included 62 businesses in Greater Accra, Ashanti and Western Regions revealed that businesses lost about 20 million Ghana cedis to malaria between 2012 and 2014. 

Ninety percent of the total cost was direct cost of treatment and ten percent were productivity losses due to absenteeism.
 
This is a concern to business leaders who have on various platforms confirmed this and how it affects efficiency, employee attendance, productivity and expenses.

It is against this backdrop that the Private Sector Malaria Prevention, PSMP, a UK DFID funded project of Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Program is organising Malaria Safe seminars across the country to support companies to increase their productivity by reducing absenteeism rates due to malaria and related illnesses.
