UPDATE: Curfew on Alavanyo/Nkonya reviewed The Minister for the Interior has on the advice of the Volta Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument reviewed the curfew imposed on Nkonya and Alavanyo from 8pm to 5:30am. There is also a total ban on people carrying or possessing arms and ammunition in the area. A statement signed by the Sector Minister, Ambrose Dery, says government appreciates the Chiefs, Elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of these areas for exercising restraint in the face of challenges confronting them. The review of the curfew hours comes in the wake of recent deadly clashes which have claimed at least two lives and left many others injured. Meanwhile, a contingent of military personnel has been dispatched to the two towns to maintain peace. The soldiers who come from the Southern Command will ensure there is no escalation of hostilities between the two communities. Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery said the move is to avert further outbreak of violence and to ensure the protection of lives and property. GBC
