KOYA Condemns Agbogbloshie Violent Clashes 


The Konkomba Youth Association (KOYA) has condemned the recent violent clashes between some youth groups in Agbogbloshie that led to the death of one person while several others were injured. 

The association says such acts of violence have no place in the 21st Century and called on the security services to investigate and bring perpetrators to book. 

Speaking at the annual congress of KOYA in Saboba in the Northern Region, the President of the association, Charles Nyonjaa, said it is unfortunate that, the clashes were framed as an ethnic clash between Konkombas and Dagombas, adding that, the groups live in peace across various parts of the country. 

The Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, who delivered a message on behalf of the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, urged Konkombas to take advantage of government’s free education policy to make all konkombas literate twenty years. 

He said, the era of the sword and gun has passed, and that, the means to success in every human endeavour is education. 

Mr. Nitiwul reiterated government’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promise of creating one district one factory to provide jobs for the teeming youth. 

He also assured the people of government’s determination to identify and prosecute perpetrators of the recent violent clashes in Agbogbloshie and urged all ethnic groups in the region to live in peace. 

The Minister also warned Konkomba parents to desist from forcing their children into marriage, saying anyone found to have engaged in sexual activity with a girl fifteen and below, shall face the law. 

The chief of Saboba, Uchaborbor Kambonja Binalibema expressed worry at the increasing unpredictability of the climate, saying it has affected, farming and fishing in the area while increasing the intensity and duration of the heat wave. 

He identified deforestation as a major problem in the area, appealed to government to help preserve the environment for future generations.
