A/R: Severe rainstorm displaces 325 students of Aduman SHS

A severe rainstorm has caused substantial damage to facilities at Aduman Senior High School (SHS), in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region. However, no casualty was recorded. 

About 75 per cent of the school’s fence wall collapsed, while the entire roof of the Dining Hall, Visual Arts block, workshop, the boys’ and girls’ dormitories have been ripped off. 

The ripped roofs also destroyed some electrical cables connecting facilities to the National Grid. Currently, about 325 students have been displaced, with most of them having their personal belongings destroyed by the rainstorm. 

The extent of damage estimated at over 300 thousand Ghana Cedis. 

The Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Mary Owusu Achiaw, the District Director of Education, Mrs. Stella Ofori-Attah, the chief of the town, Nana Kwadwo Effah and District NADMO officials have already visited the school to see at first hand the extent of damage.

The Headmaster, Francis Yao Agorsor told our correspondent Razak Baba that the final year students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), at the School’s Dinning Hall, have been temporarily accommodated in some classrooms, and the rest are lodging in makeshift rooms on campus, while a permanent solution is found to the dormitories that have their roofs ripped off. 

According to Mr. Agorsor, sending the students home will not be in their best interest nor their parents and even the school. 

He mentioned the immediate measures the school authorities have taken to ensure that traumatised students are able to concentrate on their exams.
