Gambia prepares for first post-Jammeh poll Gambia is preparing to hold its first legislative election on Thursday since the downfall of longtime leader Yahya Jammeh. The 239 registered candidates representing nine different political parties end campaigning today, for the 48 seats up for grabs in the Banjul legislature. Five seats are also appointed by the president, totalling 53 spots in the nation's parliament. According to the Independent Electoral Commission IEC, only 886 thousand voters have registered.
