Upper West: Minister urges calm after Policeman shoots Teacher

The Upper West Regional Minister, Sulemana Alhassan, has assured residents of Wa that anyone found culpable in the shooting of a 23-year-old teacher in the area will be dealt with ruthlessly. 

Monday, some residents demonstrated against the police and besieged the offices of the Regional Minister over the shooting of a civilian who was riding an unregistered motorbike. 

The 23-year-old teacher, Ali Rasheed, was allegedly shot in the abdomen by a police constable Francis Kpengo in what the police say was an attempt by the young man to seize a gun from a police officer.

The Regional Minister who intervened in the demonstration told residents that the matter is being investigated and will be resolved.

The Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Edward Oduro-Kwarteng explained the incident and asked residents to remain calm.
