The Daily Graphic congratulates Dr. Ernest Addison on his appointment as the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana. The paper says, the appointment comes at a time when there are still major challenges bedeviling the effective management of the country's monetary policy. According to the Graphic, the task ahead may be daunting but it believes with Mr. Addison's background, will be able to withstand the pressures to transform monetary policy formulation and ensure a stronger cedi, lower interest rates and single digit inflation. The paper wishes the new Governor well, saying, he cannot afford to fail the nation.

The Ghanaian Times expresses concern about the spate of smoking in Ghana regardless of the health effects and warnings. It says smoking causes harm to nearly every organ of the human body and worsens a person's overall health status. The paper adds that tobacco smoke contains chemicals that are harmful to both smokers and non-smokers alike. It therefore calls on the Ministry of Health, policy makers, parliamentarians, counsellors, religious leaders, smokers, non-smokers and all other stakeholders to come together for a more successful campaign against smoking. Additionally, the Times suggests a ban on public smoking and smokers confined to only designated areas as well as the raising of taxes on tobacco as the most effective and cost effective way to reducing the menace worldwide.
