PNC To Revamp Agric Sector And Make It Attractive To The Youth If Elected

The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Convention, (PNC) Dr. Edward Mahama has reiterated the point that if voted into power his government will be running on three thematic areas. 

These are: “New Beginnings, New Force and the New Deal” to improve the lives of the citizenry. 

Taking his turn on GBC's One-on-One Presidential encounter last night Dr. Mahama said, his focus will be to mobilize the youth to be independent, restructure government institutions, and introduce new technologies in Agriculture in the areas of maize, rice and sheanut production, as well as revamp the poultry sector to make it attractive to the youth.

Dr. Mahama was asked how his government is going to mobilize the youth to be independent when voted into power and how he was going to reduce unemployment in two years.

He said, he will empower the youth with knowledge because knowledge they say is power.

According to him, previous governments have put the people in the dark.

He said he will use his first 100 days to address power issues to boosts businesses and create jobs. 

Dr. Mahama criticised the current state of the NHIS which he says has collapsed because it was not well implemented. 

He said as one of the initiators of the scheme, he feels sad at its current state. 

He promised to revive it to enable it to work effectively.

Dr. Mahama said even though he has contested four times and not won, he believes this time round he will win because he is well known by the electorate.  

He is also the most sincere and has a message that reaches the people directly. 

On local business, Dr. Mahama said since the country is endowed with Bamboo, Bamboo development to help deforestation. 

Dr. Mahama added that he is making a significant impact by selling his messages on Radio and TV stations as well as on the internet.

Dr. Mahama promised to pass the Right to Information Bill and change the rent laws.
 
He also promised to encourage the use of solar energy to curb firewood dependency, solve the power crisis completely if given the nod.

The Presidential Encounter is a collaboration between the GBC and NCCE with support from STAR-GHANA with funding from UK-AID, Danida and the European Union.

Representatives of institutions representing the public's interests were in studio to ask pertinent questions.

The program was moderated by GBC’s Selikem Acolatse-Apaloo and Abdul Hayi-Moomen and was broadcast live on all GBC television and Radio Stations across the country.
