Climate Change conference creates action day for water

For the first time in the history of the COP 22, an Action Day for Water has been created through the Global Climate Action Agenda. 

It aims at calling for more attention to water as providing solutions for the implementation of the Paris Agreement. 

The Moroccan government and its partners also launched a Blue Book on Water and Climate.

Water Action was dedicated to climate issues with water management and conservation as the focus while implementing the Paris Agreement. 

This according to the organiser of the event, Global Climate Action Agenda, will promote climate justice. 

It quoted documents that show water as key to adaptation in 93% of the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions, INDC of countries to the UNFCCC Framework. 

This is because water is fundamental for food security, human health, energy production, industrial productivity among others and ensuring its security means addressing basic human needs.

During COP21 in Paris, water was significantly present through a number of initiatives and as a result an international conference on water was held in Marakesh in July this year.

During the Action Day for Water, the Minister Designate in Charge of Water in Morocco, Mrs Charafat Afailal urged delegates at the conference to place water at the heart of negotiations.

She said of critical importance is access to finance and strengthening of corporation and assistance to developing countries.  

The Blue Book on Water and Climate highlights countries with water crisis due to the weather phenomenon, its effects on survival of the people and how implementing climate actions and the SDGS on water will promote sustainable development.
