Parliament slashes cost of constructing Vice Chancellor’s residence 

Parliament has cut down the cost of constructing the residence of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development at Somanya by more than a half the original estimated cost after the minority challenged the allocation for the project. 

The initial cost of the residence was pegged at 1.7 million euros but after vehement opposition by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs, the agreement was withdrawn and re-laid on the floor of the house. 

They claimed the figure was astronomical. 

When the deal was brought back on the floor of the house, there were modifications in the cost of the Vice Chancellor’s residence.

The figure had been reduced to 546 thousand Euros.

This was accepted by the house.
