Supreme Court Judge Asks Political Parties To Accept Rulings On Election Disputes

A Supreme Court Judge, Justice Jones Dotse has urged political parties to accept the decisions of the court on  electoral disputes that may arise from the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. 

He said all the political actors in Ghana should accept the decisions of the court on election disputes adjudication with a good heart, as was done by Nana Akufo Addo in August 2013. 

Speaking at the Chief Justice's Forum in Accra, Justice Dotse also urged Ghanaians to be decorous in the use of language, adding that one may lose a case today and win another tomorrow. 

He said it is about time Ghanaians resolved to respect institutions of state such as the Judiciary and the Electoral Commission (EC) and make reforms where necessary, so as to forge ahead in unity and improve upon the performance of key institutions. 

For her part, the Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Woode has called on politicians to have faith in the judiciary to dispense justice in election adjudication cases in a timely manner.  

She said this is critical in ensuring that political forces do not first resort to wrong or inhuman approach to the resolution of electoral differences and disputes.

The Chief Justice said the Judiciary is committed to safeguarding and protecting the electoral rights of individuals based on their fundamental human rights.
