Elections 2016: NDC declares 1.5 million votes in Ashanti region


The Ashanti Regional branch of the NDC has declared operation one point five million votes in the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections. 

This was as a result of polling station by polling station study commissioned by the party. 

The National Organiser of the NDC and 2016 Campaign Co-ordinator, Kofi Adams, who announced this in Kumasi at the Ashanti Region’s campaign launch, said this was contained in the report of the study. 

This therefore means that the region’s earlier target of one million votes has now been revised upwards. 

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who welcomed the latest target of votes urged the supporters to carry the party’s campaign message to every nook and cranny of the Ashanti Region, targeting especially the floating voters. 

Radio Ghana’s Seth Eyiah who was on the campaign trail with the Vice President, Amissah-Arthur, reports that thousands of NDC supporters from the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region converged on the Jubilee Park in Kumasi for the campaign launch towards the December general election. 

Every inch of space available at the Jubilee Park was occupied. 

Speaker after speaker was convinced that looking at the turn out, the NDC can get the one point five million votes and also increase its parliamentary seats from four to 10 in the Ashanti Region. 

Vice President Amissah-Arthur said the NDC government led by President John Dramani Mahama does not discriminate in the provision and distribution of infrastructure projects, whether the people voted for the NDC or not. 

That he said explains why every part of the country there are numerous projects going on to improve the living conditions of all. 

Mr. Amissah-Arthur appealed to voters in the Ashanti Region to vote massively for the NDC’s parliamentary candidates and President Mahama.

The 2016 NDC Campaign Co-ordinator, Kofi Adams, who introduced the Ashanti Regional Campaign taskforce, charged the members to work together with the supporters in order to realise the one point five million vote target of the party.

Supporters of the NDC were surprised when four NPP activists openly confessed to the things that they had variously done against the NDC in the Ashanti Region. 

One of them, Augustine Twumasi, an elderly man and a polling agent in Adansi Asokwa constituency, confessed to thumb printing ballot papers hidden in a house in the 2012 election.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of NDC, Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, advised the supporters against insults and intimidation. 

They should however, remain resolute and ignore all the insults targeted at them. 

He asked the people to be vigilant on the day of the election, saying he is convinced beyond all reasonable doubt that when the principle of one man, one vote is upheld, there is no way the NPP can beat the NDC in the Ashanti Region.

Some actors and actresses declared their support for the NDC and President Mahama.
