Former First Lady Mrs Rawlings Disqualified From Contesting 2016 Elections

The 2016 flagbearer of the National Democratic Party, (NDP) Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has been disqualified for the second time in her attempt to contest as a presidential candidate.

The Electoral Commission at a press conference on Monday, disqualified thirteen aspirants from contesting elections due to what it described as failure by the affected aspirants to meet the necessary requirements in filling their forms.

The EC Chairperson, Mrs. Charlotte Osei said, the EC was unable to accept the nomination of the flag bearer of the NDP because the number of subscribers to her forms did not meet the requirements of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of C.I. 94.

Mrs. Osei said, one subscriber on page 89 of her nomination forms was not a validly registered voter. He had illegally registered twice and so was on the Exclusion list of multiple voters. 

The EC explained that Mrs. Rawlings cannot contest the 2016 presidential elections, because one Salifu Abdulai from the Nanumba South District with Voter ID no: 6617004814 registered on March 28, 2012 but also registered on August 4, 2014 with Voter ID no: 2126900022 and therefore has been disqualified.
