Sunyani Education Director calls for more kindergarten infrastructure


The Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, Madam Mary Gyimah, has drawn attention of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to the huge kindergarten infrastructure deficit in schools in the Municipality.  

She has therefore called for provision of more Kindergarten classrooms to improve teaching and learning at that level.  

The Sunyani Municipal Director of Education said this at the inauguration of separate six classroom blocks for the SDA Basic School and the Islamic Basic School both at new Dormaa in the Sunyani Municipality.  

The two new six classrooms blocks with ancillary facilities and valued at 640 thousand Ghana Cedis are for the SDA Basic School and the Islamic Basic School and JHS, both in New Dormaa, a suburb of Sunyani.  

Separate Commissioning ceremonies were held at the two schools.  

Joining the children were Officials of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly which funded the Projects as well GES Officials from the Sunyani Municipality, the local Chiefs, parents and members of the public.  

Both Headmasters, Godson Daniel Nsiah for the SDA School and Buquri Mohammed for the Islamic School, were emphatic that the news classroom blocks could not have come at a better time due to the challenges they had with classroom accommodation.  

Mr.  Nsiah of SDA School took the opportunity to appeal for a borehole to provide potable water for the close to 1000 pupils in the school.  

He also appealed for at least two more classrooms to overcome overcrowding in some classes.  

The Headmaster for the Islamic School, Buquri Mohammed for his part revealed that 35 percent of the 503 Pupils in the school are Christians, adding that enrolment figures for the school has been rising each year.  

In his address the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Kwasi Oppong Ababio, said the basic aim for executing the project was to improve the School environment to make teaching and learning more effective.  

He urged Parents to provide the needs of the Children to meet Government halfway in ensuring quality education of Ghanaian children.   

The Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, advised parents to ensure that their children have breakfast before they go to school despite the existence of the School Feeding Programme.  

According to him this is necessary to ensure that children are ready to learn right from the first lesson when the school feeding meals are not ready.  

The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Mary Gyimah, urged the School Authorities to take good care of the new buildings to ensure their longevity.  

She noted that the toilets for the Schools are woefully inadequate and so appealed to People from the Community not to use it in-spite of the lack of a fence walls around the Schools.
