MPs call for concerted effort against drug abuse

Members of Parliament have called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country. 

The law-makers are advocating strong budgetary support for the Narcotics Control Board and other agencies to enable them execute their mandates effectively.

The MPs made the call when the Deputy Minister for the Interior and Member for Builsa North, James Agalga, made a statement on the Floor of Parliament to mark this year’s International Day against Drug abuse and illicit trafficking. 

The day is under the theme: “LISTEN FIRST”. 

He underscored the importance of this year’s focus of the celebration.

The MP for Ablekuma South, Fritz Baffour, spoke about the impact of drug abuse on society and urged the youth not to allow themselves to be lured into the practice.

Alex Agyekum, the Member for Mpohor called for action to be expedited on the proposed Narcotic Control Bill to help curb the use and trade in drugs. 

The celebration which started from Wednesday 22 June will end on Sunday 26th June 2016.

Meanwhile the Ghana Geological Survey Authority Bill 2015 have been read the third time and passed by the House.
