Chamber of Mines calls for dual approach in eliminating illegal mining

The CEO of the Chamber of Mines, Sulemana Koney, has called for a dual approach to ending the menace of illegal mining. 

The process which he described as the carrot and stick approach should involve formalization of operations of illegal miners willing to comply with the laws whilst the recalcitrant ones must be prosecuted. 

He said it is necessary to end the wanton destruction of the environment caused by  illegal mining. 

Mr. Koney was speaking at an interaction with the media in Sunyani, the Bono-Ahafo Regional Capital.
