Legislation to empower Traditional Rulers to punish perpetrators of environmental degradation advocated

The Paramount Chief of Bongo Traditional Area, Naaba Salifu Aleemyarum says for environmental issues to be addressed, there should be a legislation to empower chiefs to punish people who destroy the environment. 

He said the wanton destruction of the environment is as a result of the absence of such authority and this has rendered chiefs ineffective regarding protection of the environment. 

Naaba Salifu Aleemyarum said this at the launch of this year's World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought at Bongo in the Upper East Region.
