WAEC tightens security to avoid leakages in BECE  


The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) started smoothly on Monday in Brong-Ahafo Region.
 
A total of 42 thousand 659 candidates are writing the examination this year made up of 22 thousand, 716 Males and 19 thousand 943 Female candidates.

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the West Africa Examinations Council, (WAEC) Ben Kwasi Owusu in an interview with the GBC in Sunyani. 

Mr. Owusu, also revealed that 1400 Schools presented candidate, who are writing in the exams in 125 Centers spread across the in the 27 districts in the region. 

Ben Owusu indicated that due to the leakage of Exam papers last year, the WAEC has taken steps to tighten all loose ends. 

He said stringent security measures have been employed this year, including the barring of invigilators and supervisors from using Mobile phones or any other electronic gadget in the Examination hall.  

He warned that anyone caught flouting this and other rules will be arrested by the Police.  
Mr. Owusu said the WAEC has introduced improved security features on the bags that hold examination questions, making it easy to detect tampering.  

He also said in the past Distributing Officers took the question papers to the exam Centres unregulated but all that has now changed with an improved strategy in place. 

Ben Kwasi Owusu further advised candidates not to panic whenever they enter the examination hall, reminding them they have gone through the educational system for 9years, getting prepared adequately by their Teachers.
 
He continued that the questions the WAEC board sets are from their syllabus and the curriculum run by GES, assuring them they have nothing to fear.  

Mr. Owusu advised the candidates to learn hard and rely on what they were thought by their Teachers. 

He also entreated parents to encourage their wards to learn by freeing them from over burdening house chores during the examination season.
