Committee presents GITC Bill to Parliament


The Ghana International Trade Commission Bill 2014 has undergone second reading in Parliament. 

The Bill, which was laid in the House in November 2014 seeks to establish the Ghana International Trade Commission as an independent quasi-judicial government agency.
 
Presenting the report of the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee for the second reading of the Bill, the Chairman of the Committee George Aboagye said the Bill when passed will provide protection to local industries, generate revenue through levies and duties as well as promote and attract foreign investments. 

The establishment of the Ghana International Trade Commission would make all relevant World Trade Organization’s agreement and contingency trade protection measures part of the system which would enable Ghana take advantage of available remedies. The Chairman of the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee Committee is George Aboagye.

The Bill contains a total number of fifty-four Clauses. The Minister of Trade and Industry Ekow Spio-Garbrah moved the motion for the second reading of the Bill.
