GDF, six others sue Jantuah over “abusive & derogatory” comments on CPP presidential candidate


The Ghana Disability Forum,(GDF) and six of its members have sued Franklin Jantuah at the Human Rights Court for discriminatory statements he made against the presidential candidate of the CPP, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet. 

Mr. Jantuah who is a former cabinet member of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's government stated during an interview in Kumasi that he does not think a cripple can lead a political party. 

Mr. Jantuah's comment was on the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the overthrow of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
 
The plaintiffs claim that the said comments by the defendant is scandalous, abusive and derogatory. 

According to the plaintiffs, the statement by Mr. Jantuah is also contrary to the Constitution on which guarantees non-discrimination on grounds of social status. 

The plaintiffs claim that they have made several unsuccessful attempts to make Mr. Jantuah retract his statement. 

The plaintiffs want a declaration that the said statement breaches the non-discrimination provision of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. 

They are also praying the court to compel Mr. Jantuah to retract his statement and render an unqualified apology to Mr. Greenstreet and the Disability community in the country. 

The plaintiffs also want cost against the defendant.
