We are not living on wild fruits – Residents of Nabdam 

Residents in the Nabdam district in the Upper East Region, has refuted the allegations that they are living on wild fruits. 

They said they are had working people and with God on their side they had a bumper harvest this year. 

They said the story is absolutely false and should be rejected by all. 

The District chief Executive for Nabdam, Vivian Anafo, was equally surprised about the allegation and said when the news broke out she called all the Assembly members of the areas mentioned and all of them debunked the allegation and subsequently, visited the communities and the people were living in peace without hunger.  

When radio Ghana toured the communities even though the mangoes have bear fruits and ripped but no attempt has been made by residents to plug them because of the bumper harvest they had this year. 

Some farmers where were seriously engaged in dry season gardening when GBC24 got to their end were also surprised about the issue.  

So the issue of hunger crisis’s leaving worst-hit vulnerable groups, including children and disabled elderly people, searching for wild fruits to stay alive amid distress calls on both government and individuals for aid is neither here nor there. 

The DCE, Mrs Anafo in an interview with Radio Ghana said since the district is a new district they lack certain things but her people are not searching for wild fruits to stay alive.  

Two of the assembly members of the area who spoke to us also debunked the allegation and said even though the people are pre-dominantly farmers but there is no hunger in the area. 

They said their people are hard-working and are always engaged in a year round farming.  

Radio Ghana also visited the Health centre in Zanlerigu to find out whether they have recorded cases of malnutrition but health workers at the health facility said issues of malnutrition has reduced significantly in the communities and the district at large.
