Fish research: Scientists and researchers to get managerial skills

A Norwegian research vessel, RV Dr. Fridtjof Nansen has berthed at the Tema Port to undertake research on the country’s territorial waters.

The research, to be done in partnership with officials of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, includes oceanology and the estimated fish stock in the country’s territorial waters.

It is being funded by the FAO, at the cost of 200 thousand dollars. 

RV Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, owned by the late Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, a vessel scientist, has assisted many countries in research with regards to managing aquaculture development.

The Vessel will spend 20 days in the country. 

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Sherry Ayittey, said the research is timely and will help the process of enacting new fishing laws to boost Aquaculture Development.  

The ENF-Nansen Project Coordinator from the FAO, Dr. Kwame Koranteng, spoke on the Organization’s aim for helping in the research.  

The Crew Master on board the Vessel, Reidar Toresen, also touched on the areas the research will cover.
