Georgina Theodora Wood to fast track election results complaints

The establishment of the Election Dispute Resolution court by the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood to fast track election results complaints is a major step to ensure justice delivery and confidence in the election process. 

Even though, some election disputes pertaining to parliamentary elections are the preserve of the high court, the delay in resolving such disputes most of which travel beyond four years are so disturbing to tolerate by the complainants. 

The Executive Director at the Legal Resource Center, Daphne Lariba Nabila noted that even though the Election Dispute Court came up based upon recommendations by the Center, the level of delay in resolving such disputes,  makes it imperative for the court to work faster on such cases to restore confidence. 

Speaking at an Elections 2016, Promoting Responsible and Peaceful Electoral Leadership forum  in Sunyani,  Madam Nabila who is a Human Rights activist said when people’s confidence in resolving election disputes  are  high  they resort to  amicable settlement instead of taking to violence. 

She asked the media to abreast themselves of the electoral laws to be able to educate the electorate and politicians to ensure violent free elections. 

According to her some of the laws on elections are abused and particularly mentioned what the law says about how the blind and some identifiable vulnerable individuals could cast their vote. 

Under the law,  election officials are not supposed to disclose, influence, dictate or disclose the candidate he assisted the voter to vote for.
