Seven armed robbers arrested near Asankragua for attacking miners

The Western Regional Police have arrested seven armed robbers near Asankragua in the Wassa Amenfi West District for attacking mining operators. 

The armed robbers were arrested with the aid of the neighbourhood watchdog committee at Asankrabreman. 

They are Abdul Latif 21,  Albert Akobila 23, Karim Alhassan 21, Mumuni Sulley 30. 

The rest are Akwasi Ahama Sulley 21, Felix Mina 22, and Dominic Blay 37 all unemployed. 

According to the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Quainoo, the seven on the 18th of this month attacked a ‘galamsey’ site at Moseaso near Asankragua. 

DCOP Quainoo said the robbers strategised to enable them to retrieve all the black concentrated sand believed to contain diamond. 

They also collected mobile phones of the victims to prevent any exposure to the police. 

DCOP Quainoo stressed that the robbers were aided by one man from the galamsey site. 

The Regional Commander said the police were able to retrieve sophisticated weapons from the armed robbers including a pump action gun and cutlasses as well as knives and mobile phones. 

He said the robbers admitted they went to the galamsey site to attack the operators and later took the police to the cemetery where they hid their weapons.
