GITMO detainees: Minority unhappy with Minister’s briefing 

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed dissatisfaction with the content of the Foreign Affairs Minister Hannah Tetteh’s statement to Parliament on the circumstances surrounding the country's acceptance of the Guantanamo Bay detainees into the country. 

The Minister today briefed the House on the issue in a closed door meeting. 

While the meeting was on going, the MP for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh stormed out the meeting to vent his displeasure to the Parliamentary Press Corps. 

According to him the Foreign Affairs Minister’s accounts of the situation leading to the acceptance of the detainees and the condition under which they are living in the country do not add up. 

Dr. Opoku Prempeh said the Minister also failed to touch on the Rwandese, the Syrians and other Yemenis who also came into the country under strange circumstance.

He said the Madam Hannah Tetteh told the MPs that there is an agreement between Ghana and the US on the detainees but refused to disclose details of such an agreement.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh wanted to know what will happen after the two years that the detainees would be allowed to stay in the country.
