Report suspicious characters- Upper West Regional Minister



The mode of operations of criminals is becoming very sophisticated and constantly changing and it is incumbent on the police to develop and adopt counter strategies to outdo criminals. 

That’s according to the Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani. 

He therefore called on Ghanaians to exercise their civic responsibility by developing the habit of reporting suspicious characters to the law enforcement agencies. 

Alhaji Sulemani was speaking at the inauguration of a police station and quarters for the police at Issa, the capital of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District. 

Members of the Wogu Bandee Group spiced up the event with their fantastic but physically demanding cultural performances. 

The group members led by Atuo Dangmaa danced rhythmically to tuneful renditions that were being dished out from two xylophones. 

The skills displayed by the dancers drew rounds of applause from the gathering and at a point the Regional Minister had to move from the dais to show his appreciation in a special way. 

The cost for the police station was pegged at 68 thousand 180 Ghana Cedis with that of the quarters estimated at 81 thousand 250 Ghana Cedis. 

The Regional Minister Alhaji Sulemani indicated that it is through this collaboration between the public and the police, which will engender effective policing adding that through the partnership, the beautiful police station that was being inaugurated will have the desired effect. 

He further appealed to the police to do more to improve the relationship between them and community members to facilitate easy flow of information. 

Alhaji Sulemani underscored the significance of peace and security in the country’s forward march, saying government is investing heavily to equip the police to enforce law and order as well as safeguard the security of the state. 

The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwasi Mensah Duku pointed out that the inauguration of the police station at Issah is in line with the policy of the Service to provide policing at the door steps of the people. 

He told personnel who will be posted to Issa to be good ambassadors of the Police Administration and warned that those who will misconduct themselves will not be spared. 

DCOP Duku equally entreated the chiefs and people of Issa to give the needed support to the personnel to be posted there. 

The DCE for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Fedelis Zumakpeh observed that as a result of the long stretches of forest between communities coupled with the bad nature of the roads in the District, armed robbers often take advantage of unsuspecting travelers. 

He mentioned Kojokperi-Wahabu, Fian-Bussie, and Tabiasi-Sazie-Guonoh roads as security flash points and appealed to the Upper West Regional Police Command to post more police personnel to the District to augment the few available in order to address the security challenges of the area.
