Curfew Imposed On Tafo Following Clashes Between Two Groups 


A curfew has been imposed on the Tafo township following clashes between some residents of the Muslim community this afternoon and the Tafo Traditional Council in a  disagreements over  a piece of land at the Tafo cemetery. 

A number of people are said to have been injured . 

Vehicular traffic in the area was brought to a standstill as a result of the riots. 

A number of vehicles and other properties were reportedly vandalised. 

The clashes are said to have been ignited by an order from the Tafo chief  who asked that a fence wall which was being constructed around the 

Muslim section of the Tafo cemetery be demolished. According to reports, the Tafo chief claimed he was not informed about the construction, and so asked that the construction be halted.  

The chief is said to have sent men to demolish the fence this afternoon but members of the Muslim community protested, resulting in the clashes. Police and military personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order.
