Importers and Exporters Association still object to imposition of common ECOWAS tariffs

Importers and Exporters Association are still objecting to the imposition of some taxes on rice and poultry saying such levies are rather encouraging smuggling. 

According to a spokesperson of the Importers and Exporters Association, Sampson Aggrey, the common ECOWAS tariff is not common because while Ghana has imposed twenty percent on rice imports, Cote d'Ivoire's tax is only ten percent, a situation he said is discriminatory and encouraging smuggling of rice from Cote d'Ivoire to Ghana.

Mr. Aggrey called for a stakeholders meeting with the Ministries of Trade and Industries and Food and Agriculture to deliberate on tax issues and ensure the growth of local industries.
