Past GBC Broadcasters to protest over unpaid pension gratuities

Six hundred retired broadcasters of GBC have resolved to stage a demonstration next week in protest against the failure of the Pensions Unit of the Controller and Accountant General's Department to pay their gratuities for more than thirty years. 

The past broadcasters of the GBC have resolved to mass up at Parliament House, the Ministry of Finance, the Controller and Accountant General and the Pension House, to register their protest. 

They say their gratuities became due on their retirement about 30 years ago but it was not paid for no fault of theirs. 

The past broadcasters recalled that they have petitioned the President in July, 2014 and again in September, last year.  

Consequently, the President directed the Finance Ministry to resolve the matter immediately, but nothing has been done so far, hence their decision to picket those offices and also go on hunger strike on the said date. 

According to the past broadcasters, some staff at the pension office wanted to pay the retired broadcasters based on their salaries upon retirement. 

This will mean that their gratuities will amount to about GH¢1,000.00 an amount the pensioners say cannot buy anything substantial today. 

The old broadcasters said similar claim were raised by former employees of the Ghana Armed Forces who have had their issues addressed.
