Police warn chiefs against lawlessness The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni, has cautioned chiefs on the Kwahu Ridge to desist from taking the law into their own hands. This follows threats on Fulani herdsmen whose animals have destroyed farms and produce in the area. DCOP Awuni sounded the warning when he visited Kwahu Dwerebease and Abotreansa where there were reports of attacks on the residents by the herdsmen. When the Police Commander visited the area the following day, the Abotreansa Presbyterian Catechist, Joshua Asante, told him that the Fulani were polluting the source of potable water with their cattle and when the inhabitants protested, the nomads blocked the only road from Abetifi to the town and robbed them of mobile phones and money amidst gunshots. DCOP Awuni and his team of policemen assured the people of police protection. He also urged them to form neighbourhood watchdog committees to alert the police of any Fulani invasion and pass such information on for necessary action. GBC
