Classical musicians crescendo to end violence


Some of the world's most renowned classical musicians are due to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York at a benefit concert to end violence against women.

Monday's event was made possible through a partnership between the NGO "Music For Life International" and the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women.

The UN agency for gender equality, UN Women, said the proceeds will benefit the UN Trust Fund.

It also noted the event will serve as a tribute to the resilience of women, their families, and their communities in the face of violence.

The ensemble will be led by Concertmaster Elmira Darvarova, who was the first female Concertmaster in the history of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's Opera Orchestra.

Also performing will be the distinguished Mezzo-Soprano and MET Opera star Susanne Mentzer, a powerful figure of resilience who is a survivor of domestic violence herself.
