Upper East Regional House of Chiefs pledge to resolve chieftaincy cases

The Upper East Region in 2014 did not experienced any violence with regards to chieftaincy dispute. However, there were five cases that were brought to the Regional House of Chiefs which are all at various stages of trial by the judicial committee of the house. 

Out of these cases two potential chieftaincy cases from Paga and Bolgatanga skin affair nearly marred the relative peace being enjoyed by the people in the region, but with the combine efforts of the judicial committee and the Regional Coordinating Council, RCC, the cases have been dealt with. 

This came to light at the second ordinary meeting of the regional house of chiefs in Bolgatanga. 

The President of the house, Naba Sigri Bewong, who made these known said with a legal counsel currently in place, chieftaincy cases before the house will be settled amicably if parties involved cooperate duly with the counsel.   

According to Naba Sigri Bewong, who doubles at the Paramount Chief of the Sekoti Traditional Area, issue of chieftaincy issues will be a thing of the past if processes involved in the selection of a new chief is followed.

The meeting was used to officially induct the Paramount Chief of the Builsa Traditional Area, Sandem Nab, Nab Azagsuk Azantilow and his five Divisional chiefs into the house.
 This brings to 29 the number of members for the house. 

The Sandem Naba and his sub chiefs were sworn in by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court Judge in accordance with Legislative Instrument, 991 of the Chieftaincy Act of 1974.  

The Upper East Regional Minister, James Zuuga Tiiga, who represented as the guest of honour, challenged Sandem Nab to be courageous in dealing with all manner of criticisms from any quarters. He re-echoed the need for kingmakers to ensure that chiefs are enskinned in accordance with laid down procedures.

Sandem Nab, Nab Azagsuk Azantillow, in a remark thanked the government and the chiefs for endorsing his appointment as chief for the Builsa Traditional area and pledged to work to achieve the aim and objectives of the house.
